Interxion to supply residual heat to Polderheat for business parks in Schiphol-Rijk
Interxion: A Digital Realty Company, provider of cloud- and carrier-neutral data center services in Europe, and heating company Polder Warmth, have teamed up to supply residual heat to business parks in Schiphol-Rijk. AMS5, an Interxion data center, is located in the southern tip of Schiphol-Rijk and will disconnect the residual heat. This has been agreed in a letter of intent. This makes Interxion the first data center company in the Netherlands to supply large-scale residual heat to industrial estates in the Randstad.
The residual heat is released when cooling the many servers within a data center. By linking a data center to a heat network, this residual heat can be used to heat other facilities or homes. It is often difficult to use residual heat for various reasons, for example because the distance between the disconnection and receiver cannot be too great. Because AMS5 is located directly next to RichPort and Starpark and these industrial estates would like to make it more sustainable, it is possible for Interxion and Polderheat to efficiently unlock the heat for them.
